About Nyani Quarmyne

"The shocking thing about Nyani is not his brilliant eye, or his expert use of light, or his innate sense of visual storytelling; those are not unique to find in one person. What is unique is his ability to embody the very best traits of an artist while maintaining 100% business savvy and an acute sensitivity to deadline and budget. It has been a great pleasure to hire him. Under a ridiculously tight deadline for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, I was able to direct Nyani in Ghana via Skype on an important visual story while in the US and Tanzania. The project was a success. I wish I had a Nyani in every country we work in around the world." Aaron Straight, Tri-Film Productions

"Nyani is undoubtedly a professional, well-informed and widely-read. His photographic skills and dexterity with the camera are unquestionable, and he has excellent creative abilities." Bernard Alando, BasicNeeds

How I Approach My Work

I come from a multicultural background, having been born in India to a Ghanaian father and Filipino mother before moving on to Kenya, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Canada, Australia, the USA and finally Ghana in late 2009.

Being something of a cultural amalgam, and having been ‘rootless’ for all my life, my ability to connect with people has been something of an anchor point in my life. My work hinges on the sameness that I see in all of us.

I strive in my work to harness the power of photography to create a visceral emotional connection between viewer and viewed; the power of an image to remind us of our shared humanity and our shared responsibilities to each other and to the planet.
